Major Writing Project 3: Persuasive Objects

Sunglasses the functional fashion accessory. It seems as though not many people care about sunglasses. Considering the difficultly in procuring the proper information from credible sources. Sunglasses are very important because they protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation. Another reason for more study is their history and impact on fashion. Sunglass deserve more time in the spotlight and we will be discussing why down below.

Sunglasses should be a higher area of study because of their medical usefulness. Sunglasses’ purpose is to protect the eyes from harmfully ultraviolet radiation.

“Apart from UVR that reaches us directly from the sun, there is a large amount of UVR reflected to the earth’s surface from molecules and particles in the atmosphere, known as scattered UVR. For most of the day there is as much scattered UVR from the sky as there is from the direct sun. UVR can also be reflected onto us from surfaces such as snow, water, concrete and buildings.” Informs an article from ARPANSA.

“Long-term exposure to UVR can cause serious damage to eyes, such as clouding in the lens, known as cataracts, which impair vision. Short-term overexposure to UVR can result in acute photo-keratitis, better known as snow-blindness. Children are particularly at risk as UVR can penetrate deeper into the eye and cause increased damage to the lens or retina.” Says ARPANSA.

Sunglasses impact of culture such as fashion is another reason for increased study.

“, they came to the mass market in the 20th Century, by Foster Grant (founder of the Foster Grant Company). These affordable designs were made using injection moulding and celluloid. They were initially sold on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, New Jersey. From here, their popularity skyrocketed.” Says an article from Fashion Eyewear.

“Science, technologies, and fashion trends have evolved throughout several centuries, but ne fact has remained the same: people need and value sunglasses. This important eyewear not only makes a fashion statement – but can protect eyes from the harmful effects of UV rays. Sunglasses can even protect skin from wrinkles by blocking rays and reducing squinting.” Reads “The History of Sunglasses.” Bauer & Clausen Optometry. This quote brings together the points of this paper of why sunglasses deserve more attention.

To conclude sunglasses merit increased attention to their study. They have an important purpose for the eyes, protecting them. They impact culture and fashion. They personally affect my day to day life, I never go anywhere without them. They are always an important part of my ensemble, because of my sensitive vision. For these reason sunglasses definitely deserve more attention
